Hidden Sources of Peanuts

Peanuts, peanut oil, and peanut flour are found in many food products. Even in products that do not have peanut products in them, they may end up being dangerous due to cross contamination. For example many candy products are cross contaminated because the non-peanut product was manufactured on the same room as a product with peanuts.  Workers move from line to line unintentionally contaminating the peanut free product.

Some manufacturers now have separate facilities for peanut free foods and advertise this on their packagesHere are some unexpected sources of peanuts or peanut contamination:

  • Sauces
  • Sweets
  • Egg rolls
  • Potato pancakes
  • Specialty pizzas
  • Pet food
  • Glazes/marinades
  • Some vegetarian foods advertise ad meat substitutes
  • Health and beauty products
  • Vitamins
  • Cashiers snacking while handling your cash funds.
  • Pellets for pellet burning stoves
  • Wallboard
  • Toys
  •  Some lawn fertilizers
  • Kissing (saliva)
